MathCounts

​

MATHCOUNTS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that reaches students in grades 6-8 in all US states and territories with 3 extracurricular math programs. Hundreds of thousands of students participate in MathCounts programs or use its resources each year. The goal is to make learning math fun. MathCounts believes middle school years is a critical juncture when a love of math must be encouraged, and a fear of math must be overcome. Its programs build problem solving skills and positive attitudes about math, so students embrace challenges and expand their academic and career opportunities in the future.

Program: Floris MATHCOUNTS 2026–2027

 

Eligibility: Floris Elementary 6th-grade students only

 

Schedule: Tuesdays, 4:00–5:00 PM

 

Season: October 2026 – February 2027

 

Location: Floris Elementary School

 

Capacity: Limited to the first 20 students who register

Floris MATHCOUNTS Program – 2026–2027

​

The Floris MATHCOUNTS program is open to 6th-grade students at Floris Elementary School who are interested in strengthening their problem-solving skills and challenging themselves with advanced mathematics. Students will meet weekly to work on MATHCOUNTS-style problems, learn different problem-solving strategies, improve speed and accuracy, and prepare for competition-style mathematics.

• Who can participate: Floris Elementary 6th-grade students only

• Day: Tuesdays

• Time: 4:00–5:00 PM

• Location: Floris Elementary School

• Program period: October 2026 through February 2027

• Capacity: Limited to the first 20 students who register

Optional practice or homework may be provided between sessions to reinforce concepts and help students prepare for competition.

Registration is open to Floris 6th-grade students. Space is limited to the first 20 students who register. Registration will close once all available spots are filled.

What Students Will Practice

Students will practice challenging math problems and prepare for the different MATHCOUNTS competition formats.

• Sprint Round: 30 questions in 40 minutes

• Target Round: 4 pairs of problems, with 6 minutes per pair

• Team Round: 10 questions in 20 minutes

• Countdown Round: Fast-paced individual problem solving, with approximately 45 seconds per problem

Through these activities, students will strengthen mathematical reasoning, problem solving, speed and accuracy, teamwork, collaboration, and competition strategies.

 

MATHCOUNTS Competition

Students participating in the Floris program will prepare for the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series.

School  →  Chapter  →  State  →  National

The Floris team will participate in the appropriate local or chapter-level competition during the 2026–2027 season.

• Competition Location: Floris Elementary School

Competition details will be shared with registered students and families once confirmed.
